Daily Zohar # 5191 – Vayikra – What do the sons of God want in the morning
Daily Zohar 5191

#380
When the morning comes, the gates in the south — which is Chessed — are opened, and the gates of healing go forth to the world. And the east wind — which is Zeir Anpin — awakens, and rachamim (Mercy) is found. And all these stars and constellations — which are the levels appointed under the dominion of this morning, which is Yessod that illuminates Chassadim — all open with praise and songs to the supernal King. This is what is written: “בְּרָן יַחַד כּוֹכְבֵי בֹקֶר וַיָּרִיעוּ כָּל בְּנֵי אֱלֹהִים” “When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy” (Job 38:7).
He asks: What do the sons of God — which are din (judgment) — want here, that they cause a teruah (תרועה, shout/breaking sound) in this morning, which is the time of Chessed? For all the dinim pass away when Chessed is aroused in the world.
And he answers: Rather, “וַיָּרִיעוּ כָּל בְּנֵי אֱלֹהִים” “and all the sons of God shouted for joy” means that the strength of the harsh dinim is broken, and their power is shattered. For “וַיָּרִיעוּ” means they were broken, as it is said: “רוֹעָה הִתְרוֹעֲעָה הָאָרֶץ” “The earth is utterly broken” (Isaiah 24:19).
Notes:
At dawn, the gates of Chessed (south) and healing open. Zeir Anpin (the east wind) awakens, and Yessod (the “morning”) illuminates Chassadim. All the levels in the heavens join in praise to the King.
The “sons of God” (angels of din/judgment) do not bring harsh judgment at this hour. Instead, their “shout” (teruah) signifies the breaking and shattering of the power of harsh dinim. As Chessed prevails, the forces of judgment are subdued and transformed. This reveals the morning as a time of healing, joy, and the sweetening of all judgments through the illumination of Chessed and the union of the divine structure.

And all this was because the harsh dinim were broken, for the morning was aroused in the world — which is Yessod — and Abraham, who is Chessed, was aroused and came to plant a tamarisk (eshel, אשל) in Be’er Sheva. For the eshel is Zeir Anpin, and Be’er Sheva is Malchut, for through Abraham, who is Chessed, Zeir Anpin and Malchut were united. And this matter I heard thus: Be’er Sheva certainly, which is Malchut. And it is written: “וַיִּקְרָא שָׁם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה אֵל עוֹלָם” “And he called there on the name of YHVH, El Olam” (Genesis 21:33). That is, the union of Zeir Anpin and Malchut. For YHVH is Zeir Anpin, El Olam is Malchut.
Notes:
The Zohar connects the sweetening of harsh dinim on Rosh Hashanah to the arousal of Yessod (“the morning”) and Chessed (Abraham). Abraham’s planting of the eshel in Be’er Sheva symbolizes the unification of Zeir Anpin (the eshel) and Malchut (Be’er Sheva) through the power of Chessed.
The verse “And he called there on the name of YHVH, El Olam” encodes this union: YHVH represents Zeir Anpin, while “El Olam” points to Malchut. This act of planting and calling the divine Name demonstrates how Chessed facilitates the harmonious joining of the divine masculine and feminine, bringing blessing and rectifying the worlds. The teaching links the patriarchs’ actions to the ongoing cosmic process of unification celebrated on Rosh Hashanah.
