382. פָּתַח חֲבֵרוֹ הַסּוֹחֵר וְאָמַר, הַבֹּקֶר אוֹר וְהָאֲנָשִׁים שֻׁלְּחוּ וְגוֹ’. מַה זֶּה הַבֹּקֶר אוֹר? כָּךְ לָמַדְנוּ, מַה זֶּה בֹּקֶר? אֶלָּא בִּזְמַן שֶׁבָּא הַבֹּקֶר וְהַדִּינִים עוֹבְרִים וְחֶסֶד רוֹצֶה לְהִתְעוֹרֵר, כָּל אוֹתָם שֶׁבָּאִים מֵהַצַּד הַזֶּה, מְבַקְּרִים (פּוֹקְדִים) אֶת מְקוֹמוֹתֵיהֶם לְזַמֵּן בְּרָכוֹת לָעוֹלָם. וְזֶהוּ הַבֹּקֶר אוֹר, שֶׁהֲרֵי הָרַחֲמִים מִתְיַשְּׁבִים לָעוֹלָם, וְהַחֶסֶד בָּא אַחֲרָיו, אֲזַי הוּא בֹּקֶר אוֹר. וְכָתוּב, וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת הָאוֹר כִּי טוֹב.

The merchant’s companion opened and said: “הַבֹּקֶר אוֹר וְהָאֲנָשִׁים שֻׁלְּחוּ” etc. “The morning was light, and the men were sent” etc. (Genesis 44:3). What is “the morning was light”?
And he answers: Thus I have learned: What is “morning”? That is, at the time when the morning comes, and the dinim pass away, and Chessed wants to awaken, all those who come from the side of Chessed visit their place, that is, Chessed, to bring blessings to the world. And this is “the morning was light” — that mercy (rachamim) settles in the world, and Chessed stands in its place. Then it is “the morning was light,” and it is written: “וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת הָאוֹר כִּי טוֹב” “And God saw the light that it was good” (Genesis 1:4). For the light is Chessed, “good” is Yessod, which is called good and is called morning. For Chessed is aroused through the morning, which is Yessod. And this is “the morning was light.”
