Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#430
And Rabbi Shimon said, We have already learned. There is one who has merited a neshama. And there is one who has merited an awakening of ruach. And there is one who has merited only a nefesh. This one, who has merited only a nefesh and does not rise higher to merit ruach and neshama, clings to that impure side (as is written below, #439). And when he sleeps, these evil sides come and cling to him, and make known to him in a dream matters of the world — some of them false and some of them true. And sometimes they mock him, show him false matters, and cause him pain in his dream. And therefore the nations of idol worship, some of them see true matters in their dreams, because of that side to which they cling, which makes it known to them, and all of them are matters that will come in a near time.
Notes:
A person who remains only with the level of nefesh and does not rise to ruach and neshama becomes attached to the impure side. In sleep, forces of impurity cling to him and show mixed true and false dreams, sometimes causing distress. This also explains why some among the nations receive true short-term visions in dreams through the side to which they are connected.
