Hebrew translation:
Tikkun 69 – 123
Abel, in Hebrew הבל, means ‘vapor’ that comes out of of the mouth.
Ecclesiastes mentions seven ‘Vapors’ (it is incorrectly translated there as vanities). In Psalms 29 King David mentions seven voices of YHVH.
הבל is the aspect of the right column and the seven lines of the Ana B’Koach.
Deuteronomy 8:3
“כִּי לֹא עַל-הַלֶּחֶם לְבַדּוֹ יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם–כִּי עַל-כָּל-מוֹצָא פִי-יְהוָה, יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם.”
“man doth not live by bread only, but by every thing comes out of the mouth of YHVH doth man live.”
The voices of YHVH. There are seven that ascend, that is the aspect of the seven Sefirot of the lower levels. When we use the sacred text, which is what ‘comes out of the mouth of YHVH’, then we can connect to the eighth level that is Binah and draw from the life force of the Tree of Life. This is the true life sustenance and not ‘by bread alone’
Against the seven positive levels of הבל that is the good side of the Tree of Life, there are seven from the negative side. The Zohar gives the example of the dream of Pharaoh. He saw seven healthy and fat cows and seven ill and lean cows. Joseph connected Pharaoh to the positive side and sustained Egypt through the period of seven bad years. The true blessings came from Joseph as connection to the Light. As the aspect of the Sefirah of Yessod, he connects the Six Sefirot of Zeir Anpin with Malchut.
Genesis 39:5 “וַיְבָרֶךְ יְהוָה אֶת-בֵּית הַמִּצְרִי, בִּגְלַל יוֹסֵף” “YHVH blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake”
In 41:41 we read “ וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה, אֶל-יוֹסֵף: רְאֵה נָתַתִּי אֹתְךָ, עַל כָּל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.”
“And Pharaoh said unto Joseph: ‘See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.’”
Pharaoh knew that because of the light of God that Joseph carries with him, the positive aspect of his dream will be fulfilled so he gave him full control over Egypt. If he didn’t do so, he could have lost everything.
What the Zohar is teaching us in this section is that, we can not be dependent on the material/physical energy that we have at the level of Malchut. Even the mighty Pharaoh recognized the power of the Light to maintain sustenance in this world. He used Joseph as a tool to maintain his kingdom.
Later in the story, the Israelites were given permission to leave Egypt. The Egyptians even gave them gold and silver but when Moses took Joseph’s bone with him (Exodus 13:19), Pharaoh knew that without his connection to Yessod, he would find himself out of energy and that is another reason why he decided to go after the Israelites.
We have the Torah and the Zohar to sustain us, and in Tikkun 6 of the Zohar it said
‘וכמה בני נשא לתתא יתפרנסון מהאי חיבורא דילך כד יתגלו לתתא בדרא בתראה בסוף יומיא, ובגינה, ”וקראתם דרור בארץ”
“And some people in the world below will have sustenance from your writing (the Zohar) in the last generation and because of it they will experience the freedom”
The word for sustenance is commonly used for having money and food on the table with comfortable material life. The Zohar uses this term here in relation to spiritual sustenance, which is the life force that manifests in our lives.
