Title: Light in doubles
Pinchas 819-821
Psalms 119:164
“שֶׁבַע בַּיּוֹם, הִלַּלְתִּיךָ– עַל, מִשְׁפְּטֵי צִדְקֶךָ”
“Seven times a day do I praise you, because of your righteous ordinances”
Zechariah 4:2
“וְשִׁבְעָה נֵרֹתֶיהָ עָלֶיהָ–שִׁבְעָה וְשִׁבְעָה מוּצָקוֹת, לַנֵּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל-רֹאשָׁהּ”
“and its seven candles thereon; there are seven pipes, and seven solid, to the candles, which are upon her head”
We learned that the Sukkah connects us to the seven Sefirot. The Zohar explains in this section that it also connects us to the seven major planets of the solar system with the 7 double letters, בגכפרת. They are called ‘doubles’ because they have two forms. One form is with ‘Dagesh’ that means there is a dot in the middle of the letter. The Dagesh brings the female aspect and the letter without it has the male aspect.
The סכך, top of the Sukkah, should not be too condensed with branches on top because it will invalidate it. It’s better to leave small cracks to be able to see the stars from within the Sukkah.
The Lulav has three Myrtle branches for Chessed, Gevurah and Tiferet. Two willow branches for Netzach and Hod. Unopened palm branch for Yessod. It is like the spine that holds the entire body. The Spine has 18 links חי , numerically ‘life’ . It also represents the purpose of Yessod that connects the nine Sefirot on the way up and down. Malchut doesn’t have light of its own and Yessod is the one that channels the ‘life’ energy from the upper Sefirot of Light to Malchut.
