Daily Zohar # 3515 – Vayeshev – Why Joseph was wandering?

Zohar Vayeshev
#103
It is written in ancient books that the children of Jacob needed to control Joseph before he went down to Egypt. If he were to go to Egypt before they had control over him, the Egyptians would have control over Israel forever. Even though Joseph became second to the King in Egypt, the fact that the brothers caught him and he was sold to Egypt satisfied the spiritual aspects and through Joseph the children of Israel governed the world. Because of that, the power of the Egyptians was weakened and the Israelites could break the bondage to them.
#104
Joseph is Yessod and the aspect of the supernal covenant. Before he became a slave, the Israelites were in peace and with the Shechina. As a slave Joseph couldn’t be the proper channel for the supernal levels and the Israelites went to exile with the Shechina.
After Joseph’s death, the control of the Israelites broke and a new king could rise over Egypt.
Exodus 1:8
“Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.”
#105
Genesis 37:15
“And a man found him wandering in the fields. And the man asked him, “What are you seeking?””
The Zohar says that the ‘man’(אִישׁ) that found Joseph lost in the field is the angel Gabriel who is called ‘man’ (אִישׁ) as we read in
Daniel 9:21
“yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man (אִישׁ) Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering.”
Joseph was wandering on a spiritual level because he was looking for his brothers and for a good brotherly relationship with them but couldn’t find it. That is why the ‘man’, Gabriel asked him about what he was looking for.
Lesson;
The sages tell us that Jacob had to go down to Egypt with shackles, but because he reached a high level of righteousness, and Hashem loved him, the events were turned around so he will go down to Egypt with honor of a king.
