The “image” (צֶלֶם) (pronounced ‘Tzelem’) is attached to a person until he comes into the world. When he enters the world, he grows in this image, and in this image, he walks through Life. This is what is meant by the verse;
Psalm 39:7
“אַךְ בְּצֶלֶם יִתְהַלֶּךְ אִישׁ אַךְ הֶבֶל יֶהֱמָיוּן יִצְבֹּר וְלֹא יֵדַע מִי אֹסְפָם”
“Surely every man walks in his ‘Image’ (צֶלֶם); Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches and does not know who will gather them.”
Lesson:
The “Image” is the force of Life that surrounds us. It contains the ‘genetics’ of our Tikun process and growth potential. The Zohar quotes the words of King David about people who connect to the material aspects of Life, collecting possessions and pleasures while ignoring the “Image” (צֶלֶם) assigned to them from above. When a person passes away from this world, all his possessions are left behind, and he won’t even know what will happen to them. The צֶלֶם of a person testifies to his actions. Studies, Tzedakah, and all good deeds are essential and counted when leaving this world. While we work for our sustenance, we should not ignore even for a moment the growth of our צֶלֶם. Even if a person leaves his inheritance to Tzedakah and channels of Light, he is still obligated to ‘work’ on his צֶלֶם Tzelem. The Zohar teaches us that the Tzelem is removed from us 30 days before the force of Life is separated from our corporeal body.
