Daily Zohar # 4690 – Noach – Responsibility to create stability both above and below
Daily Zohar 4690

#158
When Elijah restored the matter to its proper place—that is, when he repaired the Yessod to bring it closer to Malchut—everything was healed. This is what is meant by “וַיְרַפֵּא אֶת מִזְבַּח ה’ הֶהָרוּס” “And he repaired the altar of YHVH that had been torn down” (1 Kings 18:30). This refers to the covenant that the world had abandoned. The Malchut is called the Altar of YHVH, and it had been torn down due to the covenant that the people of Israel had forsaken. It is written,
1 Kings 18:31
“And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come, saying, “Israel shall be your name.”
This represents the repair of the altar of YHVH. This is the repair of what was broken and its healing.
The blemish of the covenant destroys the structure of Malchut, as its nine lower Sefirot fall into the klipot. The repair of the covenant rebuilds it into ten complete Sefirot; through the light of Chokhmah, they are divided into twelve. This is the secret of the twelve stones.
Notes:
Elijah’s use of twelve stones, corresponding to the twelve tribes of Israel, is significant. The repair of the nine lower Sefirot of Malchut, which had fallen into the klipot due to the covenant breach, is achieved by re-establishing the complete structure of ten Sefirot. The light of Chokhmah then divides these ten into twelve, symbolized by the twelve stones. This reflects the full spiritual restoration of the correct order.

The question is asked: Why is the name Israel mentioned here about the altar? The answer is that the repair is indeed to elevate it upwards—that is, to elevate Malchut to Chokmah and Binah (Father and Mother), representing higher levels and to return the holy covenant to its place. This means that Yessod of Zeir Anpin will once again unite with Malchut because there can be no union between Zeir Anpin and Malchut unless they are elevated to the level of Abba and Imma (Chokmah and Binah). This is what is meant by the verse, “כִּי עָזְבוּ בְרִיתְךָ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל” “For the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant” (1 Kings 19:10), and because of this, “אֶת מִזְבְּחֹתֶיךָ הָרָסוּ” “They have torn down Your altars,” which refers to Malchut. Through the secret of repairing the covenant, it is rebuilt.
#160
Come and see: As long as Israel maintains the holy covenant, they create stability both above and below. But when they abandon the covenant, there is no stability above or below. As it is written, “כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה אִם לֹא בְרִיתִי יוֹמָם וָלָיְלָה חֻקּוֹת שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ לֹא שָׂמְתִּי.” “If not for My covenant day and night, I would not have established the laws of heaven and earth” (Jeremiah 33:25). This is why it says here, “And he repaired the altar of YHVH that had been torn down” (1 Kings 18:30). The question is asked: Can this truly be considered healing? The answer is yes, it certainly is because it sustains that place upon which faith depends. In other words, it sustains the covenant, which is the Yessod, upon which Malchut, called faith (Emunah), depends.
Notes:
The maintenance of the covenant by Israel is not only a spiritual obligation but a necessity for the balance of the heavens and the earth. Elijah’s repair of the altar is portrayed as a healing act that restores this balance by reestablishing the connection between Yessod and Malchut. The Zohar teaches that the spiritual structure is fragile and that the covenant serves as its foundation, making the observance of this sacred bond essential for sustaining faith and ensuring the continued flow of Light to the world. Israel has a profound spiritual responsibility in upholding the covenant.
