Dear friends and partners in the study of the holy Zohar,

This coming Friday, the 24th of Av, is my Hebrew birthday. In the Torah we first encounter a birthday celebration through Pharaoh, who made a feast for all his servants on the day of his birth (Genesis 40:20). King David reveals a deeper dimension in Psalms: “This day I have begotten you. Ask of Me, and I shall give the nations as your inheritance…” (Psalms 2:7-8). The Kabbalists and later masters explain that on the anniversary of a person’s birth, a special spiritual channel opens. Rabbi Yosef Chaim, the Ben Ish Chai, writes that on one’s birthday “the person’s mazal is strong and successful” . This elevated state is why the day becomes a powerful time not only for personal reflection, but for giving blessing to others.

A beautiful practical precedent is found with Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, of blessed memory. When someone once visited him on his own birthday, the Rav turned to the visitor and said, “Today is your birthday — bless me!” . The message is clear: on this day the birthday person is especially empowered to channel blessing outward. With that awareness, and with a humble heart, I take this opportunity to bless every one of you — students of the Zohar, members of our community, and all who walk the path of Torah and mitzvot — with complete healing of body and soul, with clarity of mind, with sweet livelihood, with peace in the home, and with the merit to see the light of Mashiach revealed speedily in our days.

May the continuous study of the holy Zohar illuminate our path, and may the merit of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and all the true tzaddikim protect and elevate us. Accept this blessing with an open heart, and may the coming year bring you revealed goodness and true joy.
