Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#439
And Israel who stand in the lower level of nefesh, if he does not want to merit more, his punishment is great (as above, #430). Woe to that wicked one who forgets the commandments of the Torah, who does not engage in Torah, and forgets his Master. About him it is written, “יִתַּמּוּ חַטָּאִים מִן הָאָרֶץ” “Let the sinners be consumed from the earth” (Psalms 104:35).
Notes:
Even for a person of Israel who remains only at the level of nefesh, failure to strive higher brings severe punishment. One who abandons Torah and forgets his Master is counted among the sinners who are to be removed from the earth.
#440
And come and see, there are people who cling to this side of impurity because of that nefesh from which they have not merited more. And when that spirit of impurity passes over them, it rests upon them, and they cling to it. Then that sin which this person sinned is from the side of that spirit of impurity, and his sacrifice is one goat, because it is an animal that comes from that side (as above, #429), to atone for his sin.
Notes:
When a person remains limited to the nefesh level, the spirit of impurity can rest upon him and cause him to sin. A goat is then brought as the fitting sacrifice, since it belongs to the same side of harsh judgment and impurity that caused the sin.
