In this Zohar section we read that in addition to the regular set of the Hebrew letters, there are two more sets. One set is in large letters and it relates to the level of Binah and the world to come. The other set is of small letters and is related to the level of Malchut. God added a small י Yod to Pinchas’s name as testimony to the covenant between them.
The Zohar explains that God considered Moses to have the covenant with the Shechina and before he gave it to Pinchas, He came to Moses with respect telling him “’Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, ”. Moses noticed the irregular approach and asked God the meaning of it. God explained that it is because he, Moses, sacrificed himself for the people many times before he is considered for that ‘reward’. Moses replied “What do you want from me? Everything is yours anyway. If you want to give the Malchut to Pinchas then who would tell you what to do.”
