Daily Zohar # 1411 – Yitro – Jethro’s correction
Yitro has numerical value of 616 as התורה, ‘The Torah’. He merited having a parasha with the Ten Commandments on his name because he converted. He got out of his own Egypt to freedom when he realized the existence of YHVH. The Zohar says that because Yitro “heard” and broke his heart, ‘לב נשבר’, he disconnected from all idols and revealed a great Light. Because of that Moshe could be open to learn and listen to his advice.
Exodus 18:5
“And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses ”
When Jethro brought Moses’s wife and children to him, he made a big correction. The Holy Ari explains that Jethro was a reincarnation of Cain and Moshe was a reincarnation of Abel. We know that Cain killed Abel and the Zohar reveals that it was because Cain was jealous of his brother that was born with two wives while he had only one. He killed him and took his wife.
When he came to Moshe, he said “אֲנִי חֹתֶנְךָ יִתְרוֹ” ” I am you father-in-law Jethro”, The Ari points to the abbreviation Alef Chet and Yod, which spell אחי, meaning ‘my brother’. Then Jethro added “I brought your wife and her children with me”. This statement made the needed correction.
Many of us have a ‘bad’ history, with a long and mostly invisible list of corrections. Many items on this list are carried from previous lives and in most cases we can’t tell what it is. A successful plan to complete our corrections is to study the Torah. It has all the Light required to remove negativity from current and previous lives.
We don’t have time to go through many new reincarnations to ‘fix’ our souls with actions but we have the Zohar to help us. The study of it reveals the greatest secrets and the Light from the Torah, and it shines and wipes our corrections. Rabbi Shimon said that he could cleanse the entire world from negativity but he was not allowed to do so. Instead, he left the Holy Zohar giving us a better chance to complete our personal correction.
