“שְׁאַל-לְךָ אוֹת, מֵעִם יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ; הַעְמֵק שְׁאָלָה, אוֹ הַגְבֵּהַּ לְמָעְלָה.”
“’Ask for yourself a sign (Letter) from YHVH your God: ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.’”
The Zohar explains that secrets of the letters is that they are vessels, the light from the ten Sefirot is filled and spread out through them.
From the letters and their different combinations emanate the spoken words and the ‘calling’ from above. It is similar to the way we speak according to combinations of letters and words.
God called Moses from the Tent of meeting (the Holy Tabernacle) but Moses couldn’t go in.
“וְלֹא-יָכֹל מֹשֶׁה, לָבוֹא אֶל-אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד–כִּי-שָׁכַן עָלָיו, הֶעָנָן; וּכְבוֹד יְהוָה, מָלֵא אֶת-הַמִּשְׁכָּן”
“And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of YHVH filled the tabernacle.”
The question that the Zohar raised here is why Moses couldn’t go inside the cloud now when in earlier time he went up to Mount Sinai to receive the Torah and stayed 40 days and 40 nights inside the cloud. The Zohar explains that on the Mountain the cloud was from Malchut and on the Tabernacle, it was from Binah. All the chariots and vessels of the higher levels were in this cloud.
The initiation of the Holy Tabernacle required a special process that came down from left of Binah. It is called משכן “Mishkan”, which means a place of dwelling. It has the same root word of שכינה Shechinah. All the upper levels and all the arch angels came down to make connection in the “Tent of Meeting” where God and the Shechina meet and where the Light comes to the Vessel.
The Shechinah is in a state of Exile because the “Tent of Meeting” or the “Holy Temple” are not in existence to serve for the important connection. The Zohar is the only tool that provides support to the Shechina and through this tool we create “meeting” between the upper and lower levels.
