“נְאֻם, שֹׁמֵעַ אִמְרֵי-אֵל, וְיֹדֵעַ, דַּעַת עֶלְיוֹן; מַחֲזֵה שַׁדַּי יֶחֱזֶה, נֹפֵל וּגְלוּי עֵינָיִם.”
“The oracle of him who hears the words of God, And knows the knowledge of the Most High, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, and eyes uncovered.”
‘who hears the words of God’ and ‘And knows the knowledge of the Most High’ are true in relation to the levels he was connected to but it was a connection to the lower levels of impurity of the other-side.
The word ‘God’ that is used when Balaam said that he hears the words of God, is ‘אל’ without any adjective. It is referred to other gods, which is false gods and idols. The same word ‘אל’ is used for God/divinity of the impure side. For those who don’t know the difference, it sounds like something of the divine, making Balaam as an elevated being while he was connected to other gods.
“כִּי לֹא תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לְאֵל אַחֵר”
“ for you shall not worship any other god”
Balaam was praising himself as ‘knows the knowledge (Da’at) of the Most High’ that is the level of Da’at. It was the truth but deceiving. He let the people believe that he is connected to holiness while it was a connection to a high level that is above the seven levels (sefirot) of impurity.
An atheist tells a kabbalist, ‘I don’t believe in God’. The Kabbalist answered him ‘Me too!’. The Kabbalist explained to the surprised atheist that he doesn’t believe in what the atheist think God is. This little story tells us that different people see God in different ways.
There is a rise of spirituality around the world. It is true in the pure side and the impure side. Many so-called spiritual teachers, some even call themselves kabbalists, come up with theories that they claim to be from the side of holiness. Without going into real-life examples, I suggest that before accepting or absorbing any spiritual teaching to evaluate each one of those ‘teachers’ by their adherence to the Zohar.
If they mix Kabbalah with their own ‘facts’ and theories then they are aspects other-gods.
The true spiritual path is not an easy one until one gets to the point of loving and enjoying their connections and studies.
