Zohar Vayikra

#120
Psalms 22:25
“כִּי לֹא בָזָה וְלֹא שִׁקַּץ עֱנוּת עָנִי וְלֹא הִסְתִּיר פָּנָיו מִמֶּנּוּ וּבְשַׁוְּעוֹ אֵלָיו שָׁמֵעַ.”
“For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.”
The supernal King brings closer to him those who have “a broken and contrite heart” (Psalms 51:19) and “lowly in spirit” (Isaiah 57:15). They are vessels used by the King. When there is a drought, and hunger in the world, the poor experience strong judgment. They cry and scream to the King, and the Holy One Blessed be He brings them closer to him, more than any other people. Then the Holy One Blessed be He goes back to the reason why hunger comes to the world. Woe to the wicked that caused that.

#121
When the King is awakened to the cry of the poor people in the world, it is written; Exodus 22:22,23
“אִם עַנֵּה תְעַנֶּה אֹתוֹ כִּי אִם צָעֹק יִצְעַק אֵלַי שָׁמֹעַ אֶשְׁמַע צַעֲקָתוֹ.”
“If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry;”
“וְחָרָה אַפִּי וְהָרַגְתִּי אֶתְכֶם בֶּחָרֶב וְהָיוּ נְשֵׁיכֶם אַלְמָנוֹת וּבְנֵיכֶם יְתֹמִים.”
“and My wrath will become hot, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.”

It says above ‘I will surely hear’, “שָׁמֹעַ אֶשְׁמַע”, two words with the same root to tell us about two actions. The first is for hearing the cry of the poor. The second is about punishing the wicked rich for it is said “then I will hear, for I am merciful.”. After hearing the cry of the poor, we read “and My wrath will become hot”.
When famine comes to the world, the rich and wicked suffer because they didn’t support the poor before their cry reached the Holy One Blessed be He.

Lesson;
God created this world for us with the freedom to act as we desire. We are presented with choices to do good or bad every day. One of the important spiritual laws is to give tithe and support those in need. If we see a poor person on our path then we should give him. If there are no poor people on our path, we support the Light because the world has a great lack of Light, and judgments are everywhere. It is important to give frequently, even small amounts every week.

Friday is a good day to make a ** Donation, especially if you didn’t make a donation in the past week. Giving on Friday, which is an aspect of Yessod, expands the vessel for the Light and honor of Shabbat.
** Your donation doesn’t have to be given to the same place every week. You can alternate or split your donation among those who benefit you spiritually.
