“On that day he shall make atonement for you” (Leviticus 16:30) refers to Malchut that is cleansed and purified first. The supernal level of Binah that is the source of Light and cleansing force remove all bad sides that are called “Sea depths” and a place of judgments, where all iniquities are cast. As sins are cast down, so is the goat’s hair, which is on the other side. They are not smooth but have stiff hair to imply judgments.
On the afternoon of the Rosh Hashanah, we make a special connection that is called “תשליך” “Tashlich.” We follow a ritual with a meditation of throwing our sins into the depth of the sea as we read in;
“יָשׁוּב יְרַחֲמֵנוּ יִכְבֹּשׁ עֲוֹנֹתֵינוּ וְתַשְׁלִיךְ בִּמְצֻלוֹת יָם כָּל חַטֹּאותָם.”
“He will again have compassion on us And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.”
“Sea Depths” “מְצֻלוֹת יָם” has the letters that make the words “צל מות” that mean “Shadow of Death.”
“וְכִפֶּר עַל הַקֹּדֶשׁ מִטֻּמְאֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמִפִּשְׁעֵיהֶם לְכָל חַטֹּאתָם וְכֵן יַעֲשֶׂה לְאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד הַשֹּׁכֵן אִתָּם בְּתוֹךְ טֻמְאֹתָם.”
“So he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, for all their sins; and so he shall do for the tabernacle of meeting which remains among them in the midst of their uncleanness.”
The atonement on Yom Kippur that brings cleansing prevents the prosecutor from controlling Israel. On Yom Kippur is the day of cleansing; Israel needs to purify themselves and walk bare feet like the supernal angels. They accept five restrictions; eating and drinking, washing, anointing, wearing shoes, and marital relations. With these restrictions, they get help from Binah and have access to the five gates: Chessed, Gevurah, Tiferet, Netzach, and Hod.
The Zohar explains the spiritual technology concealed in the words of the Torah. The Torah itself is a code that only when we study it and follow, we earn the Light that we deserve. Even the Zohar itself conceals the secrets but opens a gate of understanding for the Kabbalists like the Holy Ari, Rabbi Ashlag of blessed memory, and other greats to reveal the secrets of how the Light flows from the study of Torah, Zohar, and the words of the Kabbalists to benefit us.
