Zohar Behaalotcha

#141
He asks, why is the evil heart? And explains that the scripture that follows proves this as it is written;
Ecclesiastes 6:2
“A man to whom God has given riches, wealth, and honor so that he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; yet God does not give him the power to eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it. This is vanity, and it is an evil affliction.”
This verse is difficult to understand because it is written, “he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires” and then “God does not give him the power to eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it.” when he lacks nothing.
He answers that this is a secret as all of King Solomon’s (Ecclesiastes) words are disguised in other words, and they are like the words of the Torah that are dressed in ‘stories’ of this world.

#142
Even though the Bible stories have depths, we still need to read the primary level as it is dressed with the words and symbols of this world.
The verse above reveals that a person walks on this world, and the Holy One, Blessed be He, gives him wealth so he can use it to earn merits for the world to come. The principle of the money would stay with him forever, for the place where the soul would receive its ‘wealth’ in the next world.

#143
The principle of wealth is the Tree of Life of the next world, Zeir Anpin. In this world, we consume and enjoy only the fruits of the Tree that we have earned in this world.
The principle is kept for us for the world to come to enjoy life in the supernal world.

These are the things that have no definite quantity: The corners [of the field]. First-fruits; [The offerings brought] on appearing [at the Temple on the three pilgrimage festivals]. The performance of righteous deeds; And the study of the Torah. The following are the things for which a man enjoys the fruits in this world while the principal remains for him in the world to come: Honoring one’s father and mother, The performance of righteous deeds, And the making of peace between a person and his friend. The study of the Torah is equal to them all.

Life in this world is temporary, and we work to get ‘paid’ after leaving. We do good and avoid bad to build principal wealth to enjoy it in the next world.
We are not afraid to grow old because it is unavoidable. We should do our best to prolong life to have more time to earn merits for the world to come. We should be afraid to miss opportunities to do good and lose merits.
