Genesis 2:10
“וְנָהָר יֹצֵא מֵעֵדֶן לְהַשְׁקוֹת אֶת הַגָּן וּמִשָּׁם יִפָּרֵד וְהָיָה לְאַרְבָּעָה רָאשִׁים.”
“Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads.”
We have learned that four times a year at a particular hour each day, that Eden’s waters drip onto the Garden, and from those drops emerges a great river that divides into four heads, and forty-eight drops drip every day, and from there, the trees of the Garden are satiated. This is as it is written;
Psalms 104:16
“יִשְׂבְּעוּ עֲצֵי יְהוָה אַרְזֵי לְבָנוֹן אֲשֶׁר נָטָע.”
“The trees of YHVH are satisfied, The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,”
Psalm 104:13
“מַשְׁקֶה הָרִים מֵעֲלִיּוֹתָיו מִפְּרִי מַעֲשֶׂיךָ תִּשְׂבַּע הָאָרֶץ.”
“He waters the hills from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works.”
Rabbi Tanhum said, What is the upper chamber? And answers, It is Eden. And where is Eden located? Rabbi Judah said it is above the firmament called “עֲרָבוֹת” (Aravot). Rabbi Yose said it is in the Aravot firmament, for we have learned, there are stored good life, blessing, and peace, and the souls of the Tzadikim, and the highest treasure. It is Eden, and a garden on earth below, corresponding to it, and takes from it abundance every day.

Rabbi Abbahu said, “Forty-eight prophets arose for Israel, and each one took in his portion one essence of a drop from those drops of Eden, which are forty-eight drops. And if every prophet who took one of them had his virtue in the Holy Spirit above all the rest – how much more so Adam the first man, who received from all forty-eight. From this, you learn how great his wisdom was.
