Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#184
“It is written, “כַּבֵּד אֶת אָבִיךָ וְאֶת אִמֶּךָ” ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ (Exodus 20:11) And it is written in the story of Creation, “וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי מְאֹרֹת בִּרְקִיעַ הַשָּׁמַיִם” ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven.’ (Exodus 20:14) What does this teach us? These lights are your father and your mother. Your father is the sun, which is Zeir Anpin. Your mother is the moon, which is Malchut. The sun is none other than the Holy One, Blessed be He, as it is written, “כִּי שֶׁמֶשׁ וּמָגֵן יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים” ‘For YHVH God is a sun and shield.’ (Psalm 84:12) And the moon is none other than the Congregation of Israel, which is Malchut, as it is written, “וִירֵחֵ֖ךְ לֹ֣א יֵאָסֵ֑ף” ‘Nor your moon withdraw itself.’ (Isaiah 60:20) Therefore, the two verses are one and the same.”

#185
It is written, “לֹא תִרְצַח” ‘You shall not murder,’ (Exodus 20:13) and it is written in the story of Creation, “יִשְׁרְצוּ הַמַּיִם שֶׁרֶץ נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה” ‘Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life.’ (Genesis 1:20) To teach us that you shall not murder a person who is called, thus, a living soul. For it is written, “וַיְהִי הָאָדָם לְנֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה” ‘And man became a living soul.’ (Genesis 2:7) And you shall not be like these fish, where the larger ones swallow the smaller ones. Hence, the two verses are one and the same.

#186
It is written,” לֹא תִנְאָף” ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ And it is written in the story of Creation, “תּוֹצֵא הָאָרֶץ נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה לְמִינָהּ” ‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds.’ (Genesis 1:24) We learn that a man should not lie with another woman who is not his spouse. Therefore, it is written, ‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds,’ meaning a woman shall give birth only to her own kind. And who is her kind? This is her spouse.

#187
It is written, “לֹא תִגְנֹב” ‘You shall not steal.’ And it is written in the account of Creation, “וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי לָכֶם אֶת כָּל עֵשֶׂב זֹרֵעַ זֶרַע” ‘And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed.’ That is, what I have given to you and what I have entrusted to you shall be yours, and you shall not steal what belongs to another.
