152. וְכָךְ גַּם נִמְחוּ הָרְשָׁעִים הַלָּלוּ מֵהָאָרֶץ בְּגָלוּי. וְאֵיךְ נִמְחוּ? אֶלָּא שֶׁהָיוּ יוֹצְאִים מַיִם, וְהָיוּ רוֹתְחִים מֵהַתְּהוֹם, וְעוֹלִים וּמַעֲבִירִים מֵהֶם אֶת עוֹרָם. וְכֵיוָן שֶׁהָעֳבַר מֵהֶם הָעוֹר – כָּךְ גַּם הַבָּשָׂר, וְלֹא נִשְׁאֲרוּ אֶלָּא בָּעֲצָמוֹת שֶׁלָּהֶם בִּלְבַד, לְקַיֵּם אֶת מַה שֶּׁכָּתוּב וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ. וְכָל אוֹתָם הָעֲצָמוֹת נִפְרְדוּ זוֹ מִזּוֹ וְלֹא נִשְׁאֲרוּ כְּאֶחָד, וּמֵהַכֹּל הָעָבְרוּ מֵהָעוֹלָם. רַבִּי יִצְחָק אָמַר, וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ, מַה זֶּה וַיִּמָּחוּ? כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר יִמָּחוּ מֵאֶרֶץ חַיִּים. מִכָּאן לָמַדְנוּ, שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם תְּחִיָּה לְעוֹלָמִים וְלֹא יָקוּמוּ בְּדִין.
153. וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת בְּרִיתִי אִתָּךְ. אָמַר רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, מִכָּאן קִיּוּם הַבְּרִית לְמַעְלָה כְּקִיּוּם הַבְּרִית לְמַטָּה, מַשְׁמָע שֶׁכָּתוּב אִתָּךְ. וְאָמַר רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, מִכָּאן לָמַדְנוּ, שֶׁכְּשֶׁהַצַּדִּיקִים בָּעוֹלָם, מִתְקַיֵּם הָעוֹלָם לְמַעְלָה וּלְמַטָּה.
154. אָמַר רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן, דָּבָר נִסְתָּר הוּא, כְּשֶׁהִתְעוֹרְרוּת הַזָּכָר לַנְּקֵבָה כְּשֶׁהוּא מְקַנֵּא לָהּ בֹּא רְאֵה סוֹד הַדָּבָר, כְּשֶׁצַּדִּיק יֵשׁ בָּעוֹלָם, מִיָּד הַשְּׁכִינָה לֹא זָזָה מִמֶּנּוּ וְהִשְׁתּוֹקְקוּתָהּ בּוֹ. וְאָז הִשְׁתּוֹקְקוּת שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה אֵלֶיהָ בְּאַהֲבָה כְּהִשְׁתּוֹקְקוּת הַזָּכָר לִנְקֵבָתוֹ כְּשֶׁהוּא מְקַנֵּא לָהּ. וְעַל זֶה, וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת בְּרִיתִי אִתָּךְ. הַהִשְׁתּוֹקְקוּת מִתְעוֹרֶרֶת בִּגְלָלְךָ. כְּמוֹ זֶה (בראשית יז) וְאֶת בְּרִיתִי אָקִים אֶת יִצְחָק.

And so, too, were these wicked ones erased from the earth openly—specifically, the generation of the Flood. How were they erased? The waters came forth and rose from the depths, boiling and stripping them of their skin. Once their skin was stripped away, their flesh was also removed, leaving only their bones. This fulfills the verse, “וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ” “And they were blotted out from the earth” (Genesis 7:23). All their bones separated from one another, not remaining connected. From all of them, nothing remained in the world.
Regarding the phrase “And they were blotted out from the earth, ” Rabbi Yitzchak said,” what does “they were blotted out” mean? It is like the verse that says, “Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life” (Psalms 69:29). From here, we learn that they have no resurrection for all eternity, and they will not rise in the final judgment.

The Zohar’s description of the generation of the Flood highlights the severity of their sin and the thoroughness of their punishment. The boiling waters that stripped them of skin and flesh symbolize the intense judgment they faced, leading to their complete erasure from the earth. The reference to being blotted out of the Book of Life underlines that this generation is denied any hope of resurrection or future judgment, marking their fate as a permanent consequence of their actions.
The text emphasizes the idea of ultimate accountability, where extreme wickedness leads to an irreversible separation from Hashem. This passage is a powerful warning about the consequences of a life disconnected from holiness and the righteous path.

“וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת בְּרִיתִי אִתָּךְ” “And I will establish My covenant with you (Noah)” (Genesis 6:18). Rabbi Elazar said, from here we learn that the establishment of the covenant above is like the establishment of the covenant below. This is understood from the word “with you” (אִתָּךְ ). The term “covenant” (בְּרִית) refers to the Sefirah of Yessod, and the establishment of the covenant means the secret of the union between Zeir Anpin and Nukva. The verse “I will establish My covenant” refers to the union of Zeir Anpin and Nukva. The phrase “with you” indicates that it is through your connection with the Ark. For Noah and the Ark represent the Yessod and Malchut below, and through them, the union of Yessod and Malchut above is sustained.
Rabbi Elazar continues, saying, from this, we learn that when Tzadikim are in the world, the world is sustained above and below. The Nukva is called the Upper World, and “sustaining” refers to the union (Unification, Zivug). When there are righteous people in the lower world, they cause the union of Zeir Anpin and Nukva above, and they sustain the Nukva. This is inferred from the verse, “And I will establish My covenant with you,” as explained above. Rabbi Elazar said that Noah established the covenant above, and here, the text clarifies that Noah also sustained the Nukva through his actions.

Notes:
Noah’s connection with the Ark represents the reflection of a union that takes place above between Zeir Anpin and Nukva. This union is crucial for the world’s spiritual sustenance. The Tzadikim play a pivotal role in maintaining this union through their actions, ensuring that the Light continues flowing from higher to lower levels.

Rabbi Shimon said this is a hidden matter, for the awakening of the male toward the female occurs when he becomes jealous over her. Come and see the secret of the matter: When there is a Tzadik in the world, immediately, the Shechina does not depart from him, and her desire is directed toward him. Then, the higher desire (from the male aspect) is aroused toward her, with love, just as a man’s desire for the female is awakened when he becomes jealous over her. This is the meaning of “And I will establish My covenant with you” (Genesis 6:18), which implies that My desire was awakened because of you. Similarly, it says, “וְאֶת בְּרִיתִי אָקִים אֶת יִצְחָק” “And I will establish My covenant with Isaac” (Genesis 17:21), which also means because of Isaac—just as it was with Noah.
Explanation (Hasulam): The idea is that everything in the world flows through the Nukva, whether for rectification or corruption, as is known from the verse, “וּמַלְכוּתוֹ בַּכֹּל מָשָׁלָה” “And His kingdom rules over all” (Psalms 103:19). When the influence is rectified, it flows from the union of Zeir Anpin and Nukva. But when the influence is corrupted, it flows from the union of the impure Zeir Anpin and Nukva, known as a “אל אחר” other god, which attaches itself to the Nukva of Zeir Anpin. This impure influence draws upon the holy abundance and transforms it into impurity and corruption.
This is the secret of Zeir Anpin’s jealousy for the Nukva, so that other god will not attach itself to her. When there is a Tzadik in the world, the intense desire of the Nukva to bestow upon the Tzadik distances her from other god. The love of Zeir Anpin intensifies even more to unite with the Shechina and bestow upon the Tzadik—just as a man’s love for his wife grows stronger when he becomes jealous, fearing that she might connect with another. In the same way, Zeir Anpin fears that the Nukva might attach herself to bestow upon other god.
