Daily Zohar # 4744 – Miketz – Who is the man who is fearful and fainthearted?
Daily Zohar 4744

#200
For this reason, people must be careful in this world, strengthen themselves in the Holy One, Blessed be He, and place their trust in Him. Even if they have sinned, if they return in complete Teshuva, the Holy One, Blessed be He, is mighty enough to forgo His attributes and forgive them. The person can then strengthen themselves with certainty in the Holy One, Blessed be He as if they had never sinned at all.
#201
For the tribes, because they sinned in the sale of Joseph, they were fearful. They would not have been afraid if they had not sinned. This is because a person’s sins break their heart and leave them powerless. What is the reason for this? Because the good inclination (יצר הטוב) is broken along with them, and it has no strength to overcome the evil inclination (יצר הרע). Therefore, it is written: “מִי הָאִישׁ הַיָּרֵא וְרַךְ הַלֵּבָב”—”Who is the man who is fearful and fainthearted?” (Deuteronomy 20:8). Fearful, from the sins in their hands, which break a person’s heart.
#202
Come and see, for how many generations the Holy One, Blessed be He, exacted judgment for the sins of the tribes in the sale of Joseph. Nothing is lost before the Holy One, Blessed be He, and He exacts judgment from generation to generation. The judgment remains before Him continuously until it is fulfilled. And the judgment resides where it is needed.
Notes:
Hashem’s justice for sins, such as the sale of Joseph, extends across generations, as nothing escapes the eternal judgment of the Holy One, Blessed be He.
