And since this Shabbat’s spirit dwells with a person, It must be guarded. Thus, it is written: “וְשָׁמְרוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת הַשַּׁבָּת” “And the Children of Israel shall guard the Shabbat” (Exodus 31:16). This Shabbat refers to the lower point, which is Malchut. “Et HaShabbat” (את השבת) refers to this spirit, which is the expansion of that point (Malchut). This expansion Illuminates everything when additional holiness and blessings from above are drawn down upon this point. This expansion becomes a Ruach (spirit) that shines in all directions. Half of it extends upward and radiates light, and half of it extends downward and radiates light. Thus, it is written: “בֵּינִי וּבֵין בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל” “Between Me and the Children of Israel” (Exodus 31:17), meaning that this spirit is divided between Him (Hashem) and Israel. It is a shared portion and inheritance between us.

The upper portion of this spirit becomes adorned on this day with the supreme, holy delight, and it derives pleasure from the supernal radiance of Atika D’Kol Atikin, which is Keter. The lower portion becomes adorned on this day with the delight of the lower realm as it receives pleasure from the meals that Israel prepares. Therefore, one must honor it with food and drink, with garments of dignity, and with great joy.
Notes:
Shabbat is a day of complete harmony—where the most elevated spiritual light and the most joyous physical experience merge into one. By honoring both aspects, one fully activates the blessing and holiness of Shabbat.

Friday would be a good day to make a ** Donation, especially if you didn’t donate in the past week. Giving on Friday, which is an aspect of Yessod, expands the vessel for the Light and honor of Shabbat.
** Your donation doesn’t have to be given to the same place every week. You can alternate or split your donation among those who benefit you spiritually.
