Daily Zohar # 4844 – Acharei Mot – What is spiritual nakedness
Daily Zohar 4844

Zohar Acharei Mot
Continued from previous DZ
#327
And when this son, as I have said, does not conduct himself according to the will of the King, then she (the Queen, Shechinah) becomes as an “עֶרְוָה” “ervah” (nakedness, disgrace) to all. That is, he causes judgments to be revealed in Malchut, which is the secret meaning of “revealing nakedness” (גילוי ערוה). She becomes naked, exposed on all sides—
to the right (Chessed) and to the left (Gevurah)—for the King becomes separated from the Queen, and the Queen becomes distanced from His palace. Therefore, she is called the nakedness of all (עֶרְוַת כָּל הַצְּדָדִים). And is it not a shameful nakedness if the King is without the Queen, and the Queen is without the King? Thus it is written: “עֶרְוַת אָבִיךָ וְעֶרְוַת אִמְּךָ לֹא תְגַלֵּה אִמְּךָ הִיא” “The nakedness of your father and the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover” (Leviticus 18:7)—your mother, she is (אִמְּךָ הִוא)—Indeed, she is your mother, meaning Malchut, and she dwells with you. Therefore, do not uncover her nakedness.
Notes:
This Zohar deepens the secrets behind the interpretation of the Torah’s laws of forbidden relationships, revealing that they encode spiritual principles about the spiritual union between the Divine attributes—especially Zeir Anpin (the King) and Malchut (the Queen/Shechinah).
When the soul (the son) turns from God’s will, he causes the exile and exposure of the Shechinah, resulting in the breakdown of the spiritual order. The separation of King and Queen is the deepest spiritual disgrace. Thus, the command “Do not uncover the nakedness of your mother” is a call to preserve spiritual unity and act in a way that brings union and honor to the Shechinah. She is our mother, our soul’s source, and the dwelling of Hashem within us.
