And therefore, it is written: “יְהוָה מִמָּרוֹם יִשְׁאָג וּמִמְּעוֹן קָדְשׁוֹ יִתֵּן קוֹלוֹ שָׁאֹג יִשְׁאַג עַל נָוֵהוּ” “Hashem will roar from on high; from His holy dwelling He will raise His voice—He will roar, yes, roar over His habitation (נוהו)” (Jeremiah 25:30). Over His habitation—literally, meaning the Queen (Malchut), who is no longer present, and this is why He roars, indeed. And what does He say? “אוֹי שֶׁהֶחֱרַבְתִּי אֶת בֵּיתִי” “Woe that I have destroyed My house…” (as it is taught in Berachot 3a). “My house” refers to the union (zivug) with the Queen, which is now broken. This is exactly what is meant by: “עֶרְוַת אָבִיךָ וְעֶרְוַת אִמְּךָ לֹא תְגַלֵּה” “The nakedness of your father and the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover” (Leviticus 18:7). Because, from every side, it is considered “עֶרְוָה” “ervah” (nakedness), that is, a blemish, a spiritual defect. When Malchut, your mother, is separated due to the sins of those below, even the light departs from Zeir Anpin. Thus, Z” A, who is called “your father,” is also blemished. And then: “לָבְשׁוּ שָׁמַיִם קַדְרוּת וְשַׂק הוּשַׂם כְּסוּתָם” “The heavens wear blackness, and sackcloth covers them” (Isaiah 50:3), that is, Zeir Anpin, who is called “שמים” (Shamayim, Heavens), is covered in mourning. Because of the place of inherited blessing, the fountain sources (מבועי הנחלים) which are in Binah that used to flow and nourish Z” A properly have now been prevented and withdrawn.
Notes:
This is a dramatic continuation of the Zohar’s teachings about the catastrophic impact of spiritual disconnection—particularly the severing of the Divine union between Zeir Anpin (the King) and Malchut (the Queen) due to human sin.
