#349
He continues to say, “וַיָּקָם בִּי כַחֲשִׁי בְּפָנַי יַעֲנֶה” “And my falsehood stood up against me; it answered against my face.” (Job 16:8) He asks: “What does this verse concern?” And he answers: “Happy is the portion of the one who engages in Torah study, to know the ways of the Holy One, Blessed be He. For whoever engages in Torah, it is as if he is engaging in the very Name of God. Just as the Name of God directs the world’s conduct, so too the Torah directs the world.” “Come and see: Whoever transgresses the words of the Torah —the Torah itself rises and descends, and makes markings upon that person’s face, so that both the beings above and those below look upon him and recognize the blemish.” And all pour curses upon his head. Thus, it is written: “And my falsehood stood up against me; it answered against my face,” referring to the marks the Torah creates upon his face.

Notes:
Torah is alive and active. Those who cling to it are uplifted and connected to Divine reality. Those who betray it become marked by their own misdeeds, carrying visible spiritual evidence before all realms. Repentance and Torah engagement are the only ways to erase the marks and restore the soul’s radiance.
