#351
We have learned: A righteous and meritorious person who occupies himself with Torah day and night— the Holy One, blessed be He, draws upon him a thread of Chessed, and it becomes inscribed on his face. Because of that inscription, the supernal and lower beings are in awe of him. So too, one who transgresses the words of the Torah—a spirit of impurity is drawn upon him, and it becomes inscribed on his face. From that inscription, both upper and lower beings flee from him. And all proclaim concerning him: “Avoid that man,” because he transgressed the words of the Torah and the commandments of his Master. Woe to him, woe to his soul! He draws to himself a spirit of impurity that remains with him, and he passes it on to his children. And such a person—the Holy One, blessed be He—has no portion in him, and leaves him to be destroyed in the World to Come.

Notes:
Torah observance draws divine grace that is visibly marked on one’s face. Transgression, on the other hand, leaves a spiritual blemish—also visible in the spiritual realms. These marks testify in the upper worlds, influencing how angels and souls interact with a person. A sinner who remains in his sin passes on spiritual impurity to his children. If he does not do teshuvah (repentance), he is cut off from divine connection.
