#354
And therefore we have learned: Regarding what is written, ‘מַגִּיד עֲמֻקוֹת מִנִּי־חֹשֶׁךְ’—’ He reveals deep things out of darkness’ (Job 12:22), Rabbi Yossi says: If you say, according to the plain meaning (פשט) of the verse, that from the sealed darkness, meaning the darkness of Binah, the deep things are revealed, behold, we see that all these supernal crowns within Binah are hidden. And the verse calls them, for this reason, deep things (עמוקות). If so, what is meant by ‘reveals deep things’ (מַגִּיד עֲמֻקוֹת ), since they are not revealed at all?
Instead, Rabbi Yossi says: All these hidden supernal things are not revealed except through that darkness, which is in the secret of the night (לילה), which is the Nukva (Malchut). Come and see: All these sealed deep things that emerge from the Thought (מחשבה), which is Binah, and the Voice (קול, Kol), which is Zeir Anpin (ז” א, Z” A), take them. They are not revealed until the Word (מילה, Milah) reveals them. He asks, “What is the Word?” And he answers: It is speech (דיבור, Dibur), meaning Malchut, for Zeir Anpin in the state of Gadlut (maturity, expanded consciousness) is called קול (Kol, Voice), and Malchut in the state of Gadlut is called Dibur (Speech).

#355
And this Speech (Dibur), meaning in the secret of the unification of Thought (מחשבה, Machshava), Voice (קול, Kol), and Speech (דיבור, Dibur), is called Shabbat. For Shabbat is the secret of the Nukva (Malchut) in the state of Mochin of Gadlut (expanded consciousness), which is the acronym (נוטריקון, notarikon) Shin Bet Tav (שְׁבָּ” ת): Shin ש, hints at the three upper sefirot (ג” ר, G” R, Keter-Chokhmah-Binah), and Bet ב Tav ת is the Nukva (Malchut). And because Shabbat is called Dibur, it is forbidden to speak mundane words on Shabbat, for they blemish the great union (zivug) of Kol (Zeir Anpin) and Dibur (Malchut). This is because this Dibur of Shabbat must rule over the world, and not another Dibur of the weekdays, which are the aspect of Katnut (constricted consciousness) of the Nukva. And this Dibur, which is the Nukva in the Mochin of Gadlut, coming from the side of darkness, from the point of shuruk (וּ), as mentioned above, reveals the deep things (עֲמֻקוֹת) within her. That is, regarding her, it is said, ‘מַגִּיד עֲמֻקוֹת מִנִּי־חֹשֶׁךְ’—’ He reveals deep things out of darkness’ (Job 12:22), for the three upper sefirot (G” R) of Chokhmah are revealed within her. And this is the meaning of what is written, ‘from darkness’, which means coming from the realm of darkness, as it is precisely written. This means: The essence of the darkness is in Binah, and the darkness in the Nukva (Malchut) is received from the darkness of Binah. And since the verse says, ‘reveals deep things out of darkness,’ and does not say ‘reveals deep things in darkness,’ it implies that it speaks of the Nukva that comes from the darkness of Binah. Therefore, it says mini choshech, and not in the darkness itself, which is in Binah.
