Zohar Vayikra

#407
Rabbi Yehuda said, What is it that the Holy One, blessed be He, punished David through his son. As it is written, “הִנְנִי מֵקִים עָלֶיךָ רָעָה מִבֵּיתֶךָ” “Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house” (2 Samuel 12:11). Rabbi Yossi said, We have already established that it is because if another person rose against him, he would not have mercy on him. He said to him, But Avshalom wanted to kill his father with many evil counsels against him, even more than another person. He said to him, I have not heard.
Notes:
Rabbi Yehuda questions why the Holy One, blessed be He, punished David specifically through his own son. Rabbi Yossi explains it was to ensure mercy that would not come from an outsider.
#408
He said to him, I heard. David sinned with Bathsheba plainly, which is the secret of Malchut. The Holy One, blessed be He, said, Let the son of a foreign woman come and take revenge. And who is he? He is Avshalom, who was the son of a beautiful captive woman taken in war. From here, we learn that one who takes this woman in war and desires her, in the end, a wayward and rebellious son comes out from her. What is the reason? It is because until now the impurity has not yet been removed from her. And as we have already established.
Notes:
David’s sin with Bathsheba (linked to Malchut) led the Holy One, blessed be He, to bring punishment through Avshalom, son of a captive foreign woman. This teaches that a son born from such a union, before the impurity is fully removed, can become wayward and rebellious.
