Rabbi Shimon said, It is written, ‘נֶאֱלַמְתִּי דוּמִיָּה” “I was mute with silence ‘” (Psalms 39:3). This verse the Congregation of Israel, which is the Nukva of Zeir Anpin, said in the time of exile. What is the reason? It is because the Voice (קול), which is Zeir Anpin, guides the Speech(דיבור), which is the Nukva. And since she is in exile, the Voice is separated from her, and the Speech, which is the Nukva, is not heard. And therefore the Nukva said the verse “I was mute with silence…” What is the reason that she became mute? It is because “I was silent from good,” which is Zeir Anpin who is called Good, and He is Voice. And it is found that the Voice does not go with her. And Israel then say, “לְךָ דֻמִיָּה תְהִלָּה” “To You silence is praise” (Psalms 65:2). What is the meaning of “dumiyah” (silence). It is that “A praise of David,” which is the Nukva who is called Praise in the time of her greatness, becomes silence in the exile and is paralyzed without Voice. Rabbi Yitzchak said, What is the meaning of “לְךָ” “to You,” that is, what the verse says “to You silence.” And he explains that Israel says to Zeir Anpin, Because of You she is silent and still, for the Voice, which is Zeir Anpin, has withdrawn from her, as above.
Notes:
In exile, the Voice (Zeir Anpin) is separated from Speech (Nukva), so the Congregation of Israel becomes mute. Israel tells Zeir Anpin that her silence is because He has withdrawn from her.

“וַתִּקַּח מִפִּרְיוֹ” “And she took of its fruit” (Genesis 3:6). We have learned that Eve squeezed grapes and gave them to Adam, and by their eating they caused death to the whole world. For in this tree of the Tree of Knowledge death rests. It is the tree that rules at night, that is the Nukva, which is the secret of “הַמָּאוֹר הַקָּטֹן לְמֶמְשֶׁלֶת הַלַּיְלָה” “the lesser light to rule the night” (Genesis 1:16). And about her it is said, “וַתָּקָם בְּעוֹד לַיְלָה” “And she rises while it is still night” (Proverbs 31:15). And when she rules, that is at night, all the people of the world taste the taste of death, for sleep is one sixtieth of death. But those people of Faith go first and give her their souls as a deposit; that is, they say before sleep the verse “בְּיָדְךָ אַפְקִיד רוּחִי” “Into Your hand I commit my soul…” (Psalms 31:6). And because the souls are a deposit with the Nukva at the time that the taste of death rules, they are not harmed. The souls return in the morning to their place, that is, to the bodies. And about this it is written, “וֶאֱמוּנָתְךָ בַּלֵּילוֹת” “and Your faith in the nights” (Psalms 92:3), for Faith, which is the Nukva, rules at night.
Notes:
Eve gave Adam the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, which is the Nukva who rules at night and in whom death rests. Sleep is a taste of death. Those of Faith place their souls as a deposit with her before sleep, and therefore the souls return unharmed in the morning.
