Daily Zohar # 1667 – Chaye Sarah – What is your scent?
.

Zohar Chaye Sarah
A field, ‘שָׂדֶה’ is the aspect of Malchut. The positive aspect of the ‘field’ is when the Shechina dwells in Malchut. On Friday night, we welcome Shechina to be with us during Shabbat that is the aspect of Malchut. It gives us the opportunity to connect to that special Light. The Holy Ari used to go out to the field of Friday nights facing the west to receive the Shechina. The Shechina (Malchut) meets with Yessod that is in the direction of west.
Genesis 27:27
“So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him and said, “See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field that YHVH has blessed!”
This verse describes the meeting of Jacob with his father, Isaac. Jacob disguised himself as Esau but his purity attracted the Light to surround him. That brought a special scent that his father recognized but did not say a word even though he knew that Esau had a different scent. Isaac gave all of his blessings to Jacob.
When Esau came later and realized that there was no more Light of blessings left for him, he became angry.
The negative side appears in Malchut and creates chaos when there is no Light.
Proverb 30:21
“Under three things the earth trembles; under four it cannot bear up:”
Rabbi Shimon, in the Zohar portion of Miketz (paragraph #246) reveals the secret of the seven years of famine in Egypt. It was planned by God to block the Light from reaching the other side. Joseph that is the chariot of Yessod received full control over the Light that came to Malchut.
The Torah explicitly tells us in Genesis 41:50 that the two sons of Joseph, Menashe and Ephraim were born before the Light was blocked from coming to Malchut. One of the things we can learn from this verse is that we need to connect to the Light before bringing children to the world.
“Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph.”
Our spiritual connections draw the blessings of God to our level of Malchut. It supports the Shechina and manifest the blessings in our lives.
