Zohar Shemini
Continued from previous DZ
The Zohar brings another explanation to the verse from Psalms 25:6 that we quoted in previous study.
When God decided to create the world he took Isaac and created it. It means that the world was created with the aspect of judgment. The world was unstable so God took Abraham, meaning the aspect of Chessed, and stabilized the world. The Torah reveals that it in the verse
Genesis 2:4
“אֵלֶּה תוֹלְדוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ, בְּהִבָּרְאָם: בְּיוֹם, עֲשׂוֹת יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים–אֶרֶץ וְשָׁמָיִם”
“This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that YHVH God made earth and heaven”
The word ‘בְּהִבָּרְאָם’ “were created” has the letters ’בְּאָבָּרְהִם’ that means ‘with Abraham’. The small letter ‘ה’ connects to the letter ה that God added to Abram’s name when he connected him to Tree of Life.
In the same verse we also see the name YHVH appearing for the first time in the Torah. The entire story of Creation was with the name ELOHIM that represents the aspect of judgments. After the completion of Creation, The YHVH name, which is aspect of Mercy, is revealed.
Even after Abraham and Isaac channels were established, the world was still in need for a greater balance. Jacob was introduced into the system to create the Center column and give the world the final stability.
Rabbi Avraham Brandwein, ZT”L, in his commentary to the portion of Shemini explains the words of the sages, saying that the eighth day was Rosh Chodesh Nisan (the first day of Aries). On that day God had joy as on the day he made earth and heaven as in the verse above.
Rabbi Brandwein explains the connection between the building of the Holy Tabernacle and the creation of earth and heaven. I bring here only the main point of his beautiful explanation.
The purpose of creation was to reveal the names of God (his forces) in this world. At the end of Creation there was a connection between earth and heaven, YHVH and ELOHIM. When the Holy Tabernacle was built that connection resumed between man and the Creator.
