“This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.”
“Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers.”
The river is the source of Light from the upper three Sefirot that flows down to Zeir Anpin and to Malchut through their unifications. The souls that come from Yessod are the ‘generations’ of Adam. They are the nourishment that ‘water’ the garden, which is Malchut. Without the souls, there would be no life in Malchut. They connect the Light from the upper levels to the lower level and ‘generate’/bring out life.
The verse from Genesis 5:1 above mentions the word ‘Adam/Man’ twice to tell us that there’s the upper and the lower aspects of ‘man’.
‘This book’, ‘זה ספר’ as we studied previously, is the inclusion of male and female together as we read in Genesis 5:2
“male and female He created them, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”
Only later God separated the female from the male to have Adam and Eve.
Before the sin, Eve didn’t have a name. She was Adam’s other half. After the sin Adam realized the distance that the sin created between them and gave her a name that indicate that their souls were no longer one. Their punishment/correction was that Adam need to earn the Light and Eve need to receive it from the man and transform Light to Life through a process.
