Zohar vayikra
Psalms 48:1,2
“A Song; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is YHVH, and greatly to be praised, In the city of our God, His holy mountain.”
The Zohar reveals that this Psalms starts with two definitions. “שִׁיר”, ‘song’ and “מִזְמוֹר”, ‘Psalms’. Then the verse defines YHVH as ‘Great’. The Zohar explains that the aspect of ‘Great’ comes to be when ‘in the city of our God’, a term that represents Malchut.
The name YHVH is and the governing force of the Tree of Life, from the Endless, Keter to Malchut. It is ‘accessible’ to us in Malchut through the connection process of the sefirot of Zeir Anpin.
Because Malchut is the lowest in the Tree and doesn’t have light of its own, it can draw any of the lights above it. (There’s a deep explanation to this fact because all the lights were in Malchut before leaving Malchut empty from light. The memory of these light created the desire for these lights and ability to draw it). Zeir Anpin is ‘dependent’ on Malchut to ‘activate’ it/ draw light through spiritual connection. When we achieve a proper connection from Malchut to Zeir Anpin, Zeir Anpin can connect to the upper three sefirot and that state a state of ‘Great’,’גדול’ because in this state the entire Tree of Life is ‘active’.
When we bring out the Torah from the Ark for reading, we recite the verse from Psalms 34:4 “גַּדְּלוּ לַיהוָה אִתִּי; וּנְרוֹמְמָה שְׁמוֹ יַחְדָּו”
“O magnify (make great) YHVH with me, And let us exalt His name together.”
The Torah is the aspect of Zeir Anpin, YHVH, and when we take the Torah out for reading we connect Zeir Anpin and Malchut. That action connect Malchut and Zeir Anpin to the upper light of Binah and Chokmah.
On Shabbat we go through seven ‘elevations’, ‘Aliyah’ to establish solid connections of all levels of Zeir Anpin and Malchut with special blessings that allow the Light of Binah to Malchut.
The Shabbat before Pesach is called Shabbat Hagadol, ‘the Great Shabbat’ because on the night of the Seder, we enjoy a gift of the Great light of Chokmah, Binah and Da’at without any special action from our side.
Lesson:
To achieve ‘greatness’ we need to connect Malchut and Zeir Anpin using our spiritual tools. Mainly Torah, Zohar and prayers. Do not settle for reformed religion or reformed and diluted Kabbalah, seek greatness and the Zohar teaches us with its wisdom and the help of Rabbi Ashlag that makes it easier to understand and follow.
