Tefillin of head has four chambers, each with individual parchment and a different text from the Torah.
The Tefillin of the hand has one chamber with the same Torah text written on one long parchment roll.
The order from right to left, top view of the Tefillin
Chokmah – “קדש” – Exodus 13:1-10
Binah – “והיה כי יביאך” – Exodus 13:11-16
Right of Da’at – “שמע” – Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Left of Da’at – “והיה אם שמוע” – Deuteronomy 11:13-21
The first chamber represents Chokmah and the letter Y י of the YHVH name.
“קַדֶּשׁ-לִי כָל-בְּכוֹר פֶּטֶר כָּל-רֶחֶם, בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל–בָּאָדָם, וּבַבְּהֵמָה: לִי, הוּא.”
1. Then YHVH spoke to Moses, saying: “Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.”
The first chamber is the aspect of ‘womb’ that receives the supernal Light of Chokmah and mercy from above. It is opened to continue the Light to the next levels. It is also the aspect of the sanctified firstborn.
The second chamber is the aspect of Binah that receives the Light from Chokmah. It is the aspect of the brain that spreads to 50 gates of Binah (understanding). The Torah verses in this chamber relate to the Exodus (יציאת מצרים) that is mentioned 50 times in the Torah. From this level comes out the forces that inflicted judgment on Egypt to take out the Israelites from slavery into freedom.
“וְהָיָה כִּי-יְבִאֲךָ יְהוָה, אֶל-אֶרֶץ הַכְּנַעֲנִי, כַּאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לְךָ, וְלַאֲבֹתֶיךָ; וּנְתָנָהּ, לָךְ”
“Now when YHVH brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you,”
The Torah verses in this chamber are the continuation of the first one to express the connection and the continuation of the Light of Chokmah to Binah. The precept of wearing the Tefillin is mentioned in both chambers, giving us a direct connection to the Light of this precept that comes directly from the Torah.
