Zohar Vaetchanan
Continued from previous DZ
The third chamber of the Tefillin has the verses of the Shema Israel from Deuteronomy 6:4-9. The spiritual level of the Shema is called Israel Saba. It is Zeir Anpin of Chokmah and serves as ‘executive’ that unifies Chokmah and Binah to form the Sefira of Da’at. From the side of Chokmah it’s right of Da’at that is the third chamber and from the side of Binah it’s left of Da’at that is the fourth chamber.
The first verse of the Shema ends with the word אחד, meaning ‘one’. The second verse begins with ‘love’ ‘ואהבת’ to show us the importance of this unification that creates oneness with love.
“שְׁמַע, יִשְׂרָאֵל: יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ, יְהוָה אֶחָד”
“Hear, O Israel! YHVH is our God, YHVH is one!”
“וְאָהַבְתָּ, אֵת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בְּכָל-לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל-נַפְשְׁךָ, וּבְכָל-מְאֹדֶךָ”
“Love YHVH your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
With our love we create strong unification with Chokmah and Binah and allow the Light to flow down to us. The greater the love we express to our ‘King’ the greater the Chassadim (benefits) that we receive from him. When we recite the Shema we ‘stretch’ the word ‘אחד’ (Pronounced ‘Echad’) ‘One’ while meditating to connect upper and lower Hה, submitting to the Light to the point of accepting the four types of death. With that ultimate nullification of the self our vessel can receive the great Light from Chokmah and Binah.
