“וַיַּעֲלוּ בַנֶּגֶב, וַיָּבֹא עַד-חֶבְרוֹן, וְשָׁם אֲחִימַן שֵׁשַׁי וְתַלְמַי, יְלִידֵי הָעֲנָק; וְחֶבְרוֹן, שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים נִבְנְתָה, לִפְנֵי, צֹעַן מִצְרָיִם”
“When they had gone up into the Negev, and he came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak were. Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.”
‘Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt’. The Torah has 70 ‘faces’, that are 70 levels of studies. The Torah is the aspect of Zeir Anpin with the six sefirot of Chessed to Yessod and Malchut. Each Sefirah has its own 10 Sefirot so the 7 sefirot together have 70 ‘layers’.
Hebron is the aspect of the Torah that can help us connect to the upper levels as explained previously (#60).
‘before Zoan in Egypt’ to say that the wisdom of the Torah is above all other wisdoms.
1 Kings 5:10
“וַתֵּרֶב חָכְמַת שְׁלֹמֹה מֵחָכְמַת כָּל בְּנֵי קֶדֶם וּמִכֹּל חָכְמַת מִצְרָיִם”
“And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.”
“וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד-נַחַל אֶשְׁכֹּל, וַיִּכְרְתוּ מִשָּׁם זְמוֹרָה וְאֶשְׁכּוֹל עֲנָבִים אֶחָד, וַיִּשָּׂאֻהוּ בַמּוֹט, בִּשְׁנָיִם; וּמִן-הָרִמֹּנִים, וּמִן-הַתְּאֵנִים.”
“Then they came to the valley of Eshcol and from there cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes; and they carried it on a pole between two men, with some of the pomegranates and the figs.”
‘Eshcol’, means ‘cluster’ and it refers to the stories and discussions that come from and stem from the Torah. They surround it like grapes in a cluster.
They ‘cut down a branch’ means that they look into the roots to study different subjects and find the unison aspects in the Torah. Those who don’t study with pure consciousness create separation between Malchut and Zeir Anpin. The Zohar explains (#69) that the two spies that cut the branch didn’t have the consciousness and couldn’t lift it. Caleb and Joshua came and easily lift it up. They could do so because they were blessed, protected and with the right consciousness. Moses changed Joshua’s name and blessed him. Caleb visited the patriarchs in Hebron when he entered the Land to get their blessings and protection.
