Zohar Chaye Sarah
#60
Genesis 23:10
“Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the Hittites, of all who went in at the gate of his city,”
Abraham asked Ephron to sell him the Cave of Machpela to bury Sarah, his wife.
The name Ephron,‘עֶפְרוֹן’ has the root ‘עפר’ that means ‘Soil’, ‘Earth’. Ephron is the aspect of the angel Duma that registers all dead people.
‘of all who went in at the gate of his city’ implies to all the souls that passed through Duma and registered in his books.

Genesis 23:11
“No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the sight of the sons of my people, I give it to you. Bury your dead.””
Rabbi Yosei says that the ‘field’ and the ‘cave’ represent a treasure of peace and rest. Rabbi Shalom says that the tzadikim that deal with the Torah earn 200 worlds for their devotion to the study.
Songs 8:12
“My vineyard, my very own, is before me; you, O Solomon, may have the thousand, and the keepers of his fruit, two hundred.
The rewards that those who dedicated their lives to the study of the Torah are great.
The study of Zohar disconnects us from the mundane world and ‘kills’ the desires of the body to allow the soul to reach higher spiritual levels. It’s like sacrificing the body like sheep on the Altar.
Psalms 44:23
“Yet for your sake, we are killed all day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
The Shema Israel prayer is taken from the Torah. When we recite it and meditate to accept on ourselves the four types of death, it’s as if we killed ourselves for the holiness of YHVH.
Rabbi Shalom Buzaglo and Rabbi Mordechai Sharabi tell us that one hour of Zohar and Kabbalah study on a weekday equal to one year study the simple level of Torah (פשט), which is the stories and their literal meanings. One hour of Zohar’s study on Shabbat equal to 75 years of literal study.
How many ‘years’ do you study Zohar during the week? Shabbat?
