Zohar Chayei Sarah

#88
Rabbi Yehuda says that Abraham recognized a sign in the cave of the Machpelah, and his heart desired this place. Previously he entered the cave and saw Adam and Eve hidden there. Rabbi Yehuda asks how would Abraham know that they were Adam and Eve when he never saw them before. He answers that when Abraham saw the image of Adam, a gate to the Garden of Eden opened. He understood that the image of Adam stands next to him. He also understood that since he saw the Garden of Eden while living, he will merit to be buried by the gate of the Garden of Eden.

#89
Those who see the image of Adam cannot escape death. When a person passes away from the world, he sees Adam, and at that time he dies.
Abraham had a different experience because he saw Adam and lived after that. Abraham desired to rest in this place when he saw a light of a candle inside the cave.

#90
Abraham was wise and when he came to ask for a place to bury Sarah, he didn’t ask specifically for the cave. He told them;
Genesis 23:4
“I am a foreigner and a visitor among you. Give me property for a burial place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”
He didn’t mention the place, nor its owner Ephron, that was there.
Genesis 23:10
“Now Ephron dwelt among the sons of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the presence of the sons of Heth, all who entered at the gate of his city, saying,”
Abraham chose to conceal his desire to bury Sarah in the Cave of the Machpelah.

Lesson;
The name ‘עפרון’ Ephron comes from ‘עפר’ the word for ‘dust’ of the earth. The Zohar says that Ephron is another name for the angel appointed to the graves and is called ‘דומה’ ‘Duma’.
Our desires are vessels that await the Light of fulfillment. Abraham teaches us to conceal our desires, especially when dealing with the negative side. When they recognize a vessel that can have Light, they can hurt or break it, and grab the potential light that is about to enter the vessel when it is ready for it.
