Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -423.

Tikkun 21 – 164

We do not require slaughtering a fish before we eat it, since the souls that are incarnated in fish are on a higher level. ‘Gathering’ them is the process that releases their souls. The process of death by slaughtering is judgment. The angel of death uses a sword to separate the soul from the body. A sword with flawed edges is used for negative souls and it causes them great pain upon separation from the body. Sharp sword and short separation process is for higher level souls.

Righteous souls are not touched by the sword of the angel of death. They are ‘gathered’ by the light.

Genesis 49:33
“וַיְכַל יַעֲקֹב לְצַוֹּת אֶת-בָּנָיו, וַיֶּאֱסֹף רַגְלָיו אֶל-הַמִּטָּה; וַיִּגְוַע, וַיֵּאָסֶף אֶל-עַמָּיו”
“And when Jacob made an end of charging his sons, he GATHERED up his feet into the bed, and expired, and was GATHERED unto his people.”
Bed is the aspect of Malchut. Jacob gathered his legs to the bed so he wouldn’t touch the ground when the light ‘gathered’ him unto his people, which is the root of his soul.

When we read the Idra Zuta Kadisha in the Zohar that describes the last day of Rabbi Shimon and his passing, he was on the bed with fire surrounding him, the bed and the body were elevated in the air when his soul ascended to heavens, with a smile.
