Tikkun 21 – 171
The first precept of the Torah, which is “be fruitful and multiply…”, usually relates to the man and woman joining together to bring children to the world and continue life. The Zohar teaches us that it is also related to the connection of Zeir Anpin and the Shechina. “Be fruitful” means to bring the light to be revealed in Malchut. The revealed light is the ‘fruit’ that comes from the Tree, which is the Tree of Life.
This instruction came from God immediately after the sin. In the Garden of Eden we had the Light available freely. Now we need to work and earn it by unifying the light of Zeir Anpin and the Shechina in Malchut.
One of the most important tools to have is the prayer of Shema Israel.
The first six words of this prayer represents Zeir Anpin. We should use it at least twice a day. Once in the morning after first light appears in the sky to make connection between the night and day and once after sundown to connect the day with the night. These spiritual ‘links’ maintain continuation of the light in our world.
The Zohar states that if we avoid these connections we prevent the blessings that could come to us from above.
