Zohar Toldot
Continued from previous DZ
#119
Isaac did not merit like Abraham, whose eyes did not dim or weaken. But the supernal secret here is the secret of “אֱמוּנָה,” faith, as has been explained, as it is written, “And God called the light “Day.” This is Abraham, the Light of the day, the Right line, and his Light goes and illuminates and strengthens in the rectification of the day that is the Light of Chassadim. For this reason, it is written, “And Abraham was old, advanced in days” (Genesis 24:1).

#120
“and the darkness He called Night” (Genesis 1:5)
This is Isaac, who represents the Left, the Light of Chokmah without Chassadim, darkness, and continues to darken to receive the night within him. Therefore, it is written when he became old: “And it happened when Isaac was old, his eyes dimmed from seeing,” because he became entirely in the dark and clung to his level on the Left.

Lesson;
‘Night’ and ‘Darkness’ represent the desire on the Left for the Light. Similar to the color black that ‘swallows’ all other colors. Spiritually, when the Left unites with the Right, that is, Chassadim, they form unity and balance as it is written in Genesis 1:5 : “And there was evening, and there was morning, one day.”
When night, an aspect of Left, ‘darkness,’ and day, ‘Light,’ join, it made a complete day.
