334. לָמַדְנוּ, עָלְתָה ו’ לְמַעְלָה לְמַעְלָה, וְהַהֵיכָל נִשְׂרַף, וְהָעָם גָּלָה, וְהַגְּבִירָה גֹּרְשָׁה, וְהַבַּיִת נֶחֱרַב. אַחַר כָּךְ שֶׁיָּרַד וָ”ו לִמְקוֹמוֹ, הִשְׁגִּיחַ עַל בֵּיתוֹ וְהִנֵּה חָרַב, בִּקֵּשׁ אֶת הַגְּבִירָה, וְהִנֵּה הִתְרַחֲקָה וְהָלְכָה. רָאָה אֶת הֵיכָלוֹ, וְהִנֵּה נִשְׂרַף. בִּקֵּשׁ אֶת הָעָם, וְהִנֵּה גָּלָה. רָאָה אֶת בִּרְכוֹת הַנְּחָלִים הָעֲמֻקִּים שֶׁהָיוּ שׁוֹפְעִים, וְהִנֵּה נִמְנְעוּ. וְאָז כָּתוּב, (ישעיה כב) וַיִּקְרָא ה’ אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לִבְכִי וּלְמִסְפֵּד וּלְקָרְחָה וְלַחֲגֹר שָׂק. וְאָז לָבְשׁוּ שָׁמַיִם קַדְרוּת.
335. אֲזַי ו’ ה’ (ו’ י’) נִמְשְׁכוּ אֶחָד כְּנֶגֶד הָאֶחָד, וְה’ הָעֶלְיוֹנָה הִשְׁפִּיעָה אֶת הַמַּעְיָנוֹת לַצַּד הָאַחֵר, וְהַבְּרָכוֹת לֹא נִמְצְאוּ, שֶׁהֲרֵי לֹא נִמְצְאוּ הַזָּכָר וְהַנְּקֵבָה וְלֹא שְׁרוּיִים כְּאֶחָד. אֲזַי שָׁאֹג יִשְׁאַג עַל נָוֵהוּ. בָּכָה רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן, וּבָכָה רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר. אָמַר רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, בְּכִיָּה תְקוּעָה בְּלִבִּי מִצַּד אֶחָד, וְשִׂמְחָה בְּלִבִּי מִצַּד אַחֵר, שֶׁהֲרֵי שָׁמַעְתִּי דְבָרִים שֶׁלֹּא שָׁמַעְתִּי עַד עַתָּה. אַשְׁרֵי חֶלְקִי!

We have learned: The Vav (ו)—which is Zeir Anpin (Z” A)—ascended upward, to the highest level, to Keter, which is the secret of the Aleph (א), as mentioned above. During that time, The sanctuary was burned, the people were exiled, the Queen (Malchut) was cast out, and the House (the Holy Temple) was destroyed. Then, when the Vav (Z” A) returned to its proper place, he looked toward His House, and it was in ruins. He sought the Queen, but she had withdrawn and gone far away. He looked for His Sanctuary and saw that it had been burned. He searched for the people, and they had been exiled. He gazed toward the blessings from the deep rivers, from Binah, which once flowed freely—but now they had ceased. Then it is written: “וַיִּקְרָא ה’ אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לִבְכִי וּלְמִסְפֵּד וּלְקָרְחָה וְלַחֲגֹר שָׂק” “And on that day, YHVH God of Hosts called for weeping and for mourning, for baldness (cutting or shaving hair) and for girding with ackcloth.” (Isaiah 22:12) And then, the heavens, meaning Zeir Anpin, were clothed in darkness.

Then, the Vav (ו) and Yud (י) were drawn together, opposite the other. That is, the Yud, which is the head of Yessod, was drawn toward the Vav, which is Zeir Anpin and separated from Malchut. And the upper Hei (ה) of the Holy Name YHVH, which is Binah, poured forth its flow into the Other Side (Sitra Achra)—and blessings were no longer found. Why? Because there was no union of male and female, that is, between Z” A and Malchut, they were not dwelling together. Then it is written: “אֲזַי שָׁאֹג יִשְׁאַג עַל נָוֵהוּ” “He roared with a roar over His dwelling” — which refers to Malchut, his dwelling place. Rabbi Shimon wept, and Rabbi Elazar wept. Rabbi Elazar said: “A weeping is embedded in my heart from one side, and a joy in my heart from another side, for I have heard things I had never heard before. Happy is my portion.”

Notes:
The divine flow becomes misdirected when the bond between Z”A and Malchut is broken. Blessings turn to absence and even nourish the Other Side. The Temple and Presence are lost, and God roars in sorrow. Yet, even in this collapse, there is hope—through the insight gained and the potential to rebuild through Teshuvah, Torah, and spiritual awareness.
