“אֹרַח בְּרַגְלָיו לֹא יָבוֹא” “The path with his feet he will not come” (Isaiah 41:3). He asks, And will it rise upon your mind that Abraham was walking within the clouds, or upon horses and chariots? For it is said, “The path with his feet he will not come.” And he answers: Rather, “the path with his feet he will not come” means that neither an angel nor a messenger went before Abraham, but the Holy One, blessed be He, alone. As it is written, “the path with his feet.” And he asks, Who are his feet? And he answers, These are the angels who are beneath the Holy One, blessed be He. As you say, “וְעָמְדוּ רַגְלָיו בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא” “And His feet will stand on that day…” (Zechariah 14:4), which are the angels called His feet. And the measure of the verse is: His feet, which are the angels, will not come then on Abraham’s path. But the Holy One, blessed be He, alone was on his way.
Notes:
The verse does not mean that Abraham walked in the clouds. It means no angel or messenger went before him, only the Holy One, blessed be He. The feet are the angels, and they did not come on that path.

Another matter. “Who aroused from the east.” Come and see: at the time that the Holy One, blessed be He, aroused the world, which is Malchut, to bring Abraham and to draw him near to Him, this arousal was for the sake of Jacob, who is the secret of the east, so that Jacob would in the future go out from him and establish from him the twelve tribes, who were all righteous before the Holy One, blessed be He. And the measure of the verse: מי” “Who,” which is Binah, aroused the world to bring Abraham, “from the east,” for the sake of the east, which is Jacob. For Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are called south, north, and east.
Notes:
The arousal of Malchut to bring Abraham near was for the sake of Jacob, the east. Binah, called “Who,” aroused the world so that the twelve tribes would come from him. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are south, north, and east.
#220
“Righteousness calls him to his foot.” The Holy One, blessed be He, was calling him, Jacob, always, from the day that the world was created. As it is said, “קֹרֵא הַדֹּרוֹת מֵרֹאשׁ” “Calling the generations from the beginning” (Isaiah 41:4). And because of this, righteousness (צֶדֶק), which is Malchut, calls him, certainly. “To his foot” means to join with him in his service and to draw him near to Him. As you say, “הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בְּרַגְלֶיךָ” (“the people that are at your feet,” Exodus 11:8), meaning the people who are joined with you. So too, “to his foot” here means to join with him.
Notes:
Righteousness(צֶדֶק), Malchut, calls Jacob from the beginning of the world. “To his foot” (לְרַגְלוֹ) means to join with him in service and to draw him near, as “the people at your feet” means those joined with you.
