Zohar Vayetze
#51
The appearance of God to Jacob was as a reflection from the upper levels. As mirror reflects what’s in it’s line of vision, so are the visions that a Tzadik or a prophet sees when they elevate to Yessod and draw from Netzach and Hod.
Between Malchut and Yessod there’s a barrier, ‘curtain’ (מסך) that doesn’t let the light pass through. Because of that we have the aspect of mirror and when going above Malchut to yessod we are able to see the higher levels. Without the ‘barrier’ the light from upper levels can not be reflected.

Genesis 28:12
“He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”
The ‘ladder’ is the aspect of the levels that we climb up.
‘its top reaching to heaven’, means that Yessod connects to Zeir Anpin that is called heaven.
Genesis 28:17
“He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
Jacob discovered that the place he slept was the ‘Gate of Heaven’. He took the stone that was under his head (28:18) and made it as a pillar, ‘מצבה’. This Hebrew word has the numerical value of ‘קבלה’, ‘Kabbalah’. He declared this stone as the ‘House of God’ (28:22) and promised to give Maaser, Tithe, from everything he receives from God.
Jacob knew the value of connecting to the ‘Gate of Heaven’ and immediately promised tithe because that’s the easiest way to climb from Malchut, the 10th, to Yessod where he can have higher connection to the Light.
Rabbi Ashlag called his commentary to the Zohar, ’The Ladder’, to teach us that when we study the Zohar we can go up the levels from Malchut to yessod and beyond. Continuous Zohar study as we do on the Daily Zohar and continue individually or in classes with true* Kabbalah teachers would elevate us in a pure and gradual way to righteousness. Doing so guarantees flow of light into our lives and earns us merits for the world to come and immortality.

The video below shows the writing of the verse from Genesis 28:17. The Brandwein family chose this place to write this specific verse because it is next to the Temple Mount that is the ‘Gate of Heaven’. A lot of Kabbalistic consciousness and meditations was involved in the process of writing Torah. It was completed during the holiday of Sukkot, just before Simchat Torah, which is a great time to dedicate a Torah. Thousands of people came to the Torah dedication. Video from this even is here: https://dailyzohar.com/brandweins-torah-dedication/
