Rabbi Yossi continues to share his death experience.
At the same time that I departed from the world, my spirit left my body and died immediately until, after a short hour, the Holy One, Blessed be He, revived me.
When my son opened with these words, his soul flew out of his body and met with my soul, rising with purity after its cleansing, and entered a certain place. My soul was judged and was given twenty-two years of life because of my son’s tears and speech.
From now on, I have to strive for what I have seen. For I no longer have to focus on the things of this world since I have seen what I have seen, and the Holy One, Blessed be He, wants me not to lose or forget anything I have experienced.
“יַסֹּר יִסְּרַנִּי יָּהּ וְלַמָּוֶת לֹא נְתָנָנִי.”
“YH has chastened me severely, But He has not given me over to death.”
King David said it for all that he had done in this world and for the confidence he had in that world.
“He has not given me over to death” for all he went through in this world. He was persecuted and fled to foreign lands, Moab and the land of the Philistines. The Holy One, Blessed be He, saved him from all, and did not leave him to die. He said this to express his certainty in the eternal world.
King David tells us that even though his life was hard and challenging, he kept complete certainty and accepted the process. He knew that he would not die in the end, meaning that he would be resurrected to immortality.
Keeping certainty that the process and the pain we go through in this world is just, we will get to the final redemption. We accept the pain in this world, and even if we leave it with some uncorrected flaws, it would be cleansed above to prepare us for the Resurrection and immortality. Without this faith, there will be no redemption for the soul.
