#163
Rabbi Abba opened and said,
Songs 4:16
“עוּרִי צָפוֹן וּבוֹאִי תֵימָן הָפִיחִי גַנִּי יִזְּלוּ בְשָׂמָיו יָבֹא דוֹדִי לְגַנּוֹ וְיֹאכַל פְּרִי מְגָדָיו.”
“Awake, O north wind, And come O South! Blow upon my garden, That its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come to his garden And eat its pleasant fruits.”
“Awake, O north,” these are the offerings that are slaughtered in the north because they correspond to the thoughts that are “בִּצְפוּנוֹת הַלֵּב” in the hidden part of the heart, and the place of judgment because the north side is left and represents judgment. Also, because thoughts occur at night when judgment is in the open. The north wind blows at midnight when people awake from their sleep, and David’s harp, which is the secret of Malchut that plays for the Holy One, Blessed be He, plays by itself, and people’s thoughts awaken.

#164
“And come, O south!” These are the peace offerings slaughtered in the South. It is the Right side, Chessed, because they are the peace of everything, the peace of the upper and the lower, as the sacrifice of the peace offerings draws peace and completeness. The words “peace offerings” are an expression of peace and completeness (שלום, שלם). These are the completeness of the four directions of the world and the completeness of everything from the side of faith, which is Malchut. Because the peace offerings are the peace of all, the owners that bring them eat and enjoy them. For peace belongs to him and the entire world equally.
Sins and guilt offerings are eaten only by the priests and not by the owners because the priests stand to atone for them and remove their sins. And of all the offerings, none are as beloved to the Holy One, Blessed be He, as the peace offerings because they make peace between the upper and the lower.
