Daily Zohar # 4763 – Vaera – The place where the streams flow
Daily Zohar 4763

Come and see: The frozen sea, meaning when the sea receives from the left line, becomes frozen, as explained above. It absorbs all the waters, including the upper three Sefirot of Chokmah. It melts through the strength of the South, as we have learned: the South, Chessed, overcomes the North, Gevurah, through the power of the middle line. The middle line enables Chassadim to clothe the Chokmah, allowing it to illuminate below. As explained previously, this is considered as the ice melting and turning back into water.
For this reason, “it is not filled,” as has already been clarified. Since the sea does not revert to water except through the middle line that strengthens the South over the north, it thereby loses the upper three of Chokmah, which it had received while it was frozen. Thus, it is considered “not full” because it lacks the upper three.
Notes:
The Zohar describes the dynamic process of illumination and concealment within the sefirot of the Tree of Life, mainly focusing on Malchut (the sea). When Malchut receives only from the left line, it achieves a high level of illumination (upper three of Chochmah), but this light remains unusable—”frozen”—because it lacks Chassadim, which is necessary for the light to be revealed and effective.
Through the intervention of the middle line, Chassadim are drawn from the right, allowing the light of Chochmah to be clothed and revealed. This is likened to ice melting and becoming water again. However, this process causes the loss of the initial high level of illumination (upper three) that the frozen state provided, leaving the sea “not full.”

The friends have discussed this matter with the verse: “אֶל מָקוֹם שֶׁהַנְּחָלִים הֹלְכִים שָׁם הֵם שָׁבִים לָלֶכֶת” “To the place where the streams flow, there they return to flow again” (Ecclesiastes 1:7). What is the reason they return? The answer is because that river which flows and issues from Eden—this being Yessod of Zeir Anpin—never ceases its flow to Malchut. It continuously sends water to the sea. Therefore, the waters return to flow, continuing and returning endlessly.
When the flow returns to water, everything—meaning to bring forth Chochmah that subdues all the Klipot—the northern wind arises. This represents the left side from which Chochmah emanates, as explained above, and the waters freeze. Then, the southern wind, which is warm, opens the waters so that they can flow to all sides, as previously explained.
Thus, the sea (Malchut) sits between these two sides, north and south. Through them, the sea is sustained. And the ships—which are the levels that receive from Malchut—travel and move upon it in all directions. This occurs after the four winds—South, north, east, and west—become interwoven with one another.
