The letter י Yod represents the level of Chokmah and the spiritual world that is in total rest. The Zohar describes it as a static wheel waiting for a linear force to make it move. This is the relation between the Vav, Zeir Anpin that is the son and the parents; Chokmah, Father and Binah, Mother.
In the world of Malchut parents need to have children in order to continue the wheels of the souls and continue the Tikkun process until the Final Redemption.
The Sefirah that is formed from the connection between Chokmah and Binah (our spiritual parents) is called Da’at (Knowledge). It is the state of unification that continues the life force down to the lower levels and sustains existence
“All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place whither the rivers go, thither they go again. ”
The Zohar explains that the sea ים, numerically 50, is the aspect of Binah. The rivers are the aspect of Zeir Anpin with its six Sefirot. They go down to nourish Malchut and return to Binah.
It is the same with the soul of a person.
“And the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns unto God who gave it. ”
The soul goes back to Binah and receives the waters of the rivers (Zeir Anpin, Torah) for cleansing. The soul should be in a better state than it was before because this is the purpose of life and the Tikkun process.
