In short: Here are the three most important things to do and gain many ‘merits’ before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
  • Teshuva Repentance – We stop and avoid all negative actions. Commit to do good and follow the ways of the Torah.Action: Write down a list of positive steps that you would observe from this day on.
  • Tefilla – Prayers – meditation – Torah studies – Rabbi Shimon connects the power of prayers as a connection to the Tree of Life through the study of Torah (Zohar Prolog #180).Action:Set regular times for meditations and studies. Subscribe to Daily Zohar as a member.
  • Tzedakah – Transforming material energy to spiritual, Light, opening the channel of Yessod. Tzedakah is a quick and simple act that reveals great Light that supports us in this world. The other side knows the power of Tzedakah and tries to block us by pushing thoughts and reason to avoid giving.Action: Give Tzedakah frequently in manageable amounts, and overcome the Klipa of the other side. Commit to complete your tithe giving every month to open channels of sustenance to Malchut and maximize your potential.Tzedakah

Remember that Hashem knows your abilities and potential. Always do your best to expand your vessel!

Our life experiences give us important spiritual lessons. No matter how bad was the last year for us, we should accept all that happened as a correction and cleansing of our past impurities. We are wrong if we come to the heavenly court this year with complaints about the challenging year we just passed and demand or expect a better year. We should look at past experiences as opportunities for cleansing and embrace them. When the court looks at our current case and sees that we have accepted our previous judgments, we don’t need to repeat the lesson. The following year will be much easier for us.

If you have a wonderful and successful year, it doesn’t mean that you finished your Tikkun, and God is on your side. Your success may have been a test to see if you understand that everything is from God and you use the energy you receive wisely or use it selfishly. Did you give a proper tithe from your wealth and possessions, or you ‘cheated’ and kept more of the negative aspects of money? Be thankful and promise yourself to be a more extraordinary sharing person. The energy we receive in this world is only a more significant opportunity to better our souls, not our bank account. More money equals more power to do better for others. When we die, we take with us only the garments of our souls. It is done only with a good study of the Zohar and sharing acts.

I want to share something I learned from Rabbi Benayahu Samueli, head of “Nehar Shalom,” נהר שלום, a Yeshiva for the study of Kabbalah in Jerusalem.

He quoted Rabbi Shimon from the Zohar with the explanation of the verse from Psalms 89:16 “אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם, יֹדְעֵי תְרוּעָה; יְהוָה, בְּאוֹר-פָּנֶיךָ יְהַלֵּכוּן”

“Blessed is the people that know your joyful sound (תְרוּעָה)! YHVH, they will walk in the Light of your face!”

תרועה, ‘Teruah,’ has the letters for ‘Torah’ תורה and ע. The letter ע has a numerical value of 70. The verse reveals that blessed are those who study the Torah on all of its 70 levels, which the Zohar teaches us. The verse talks about the people that ‘know’ and not those who can ‘hear’ the Shofar. To ‘know’ is ‘to connect,’ which is related to the Sefirah of Da’at that connects Chokmah and Binah of the upper spiritual levels.

The outcome of this connection is explained in the second part of the verse. “YHVH, they will walk in the Light of your face (פנים). The word פנים also means ‘inner.’ When we study the Zohar it is like blowing the Shofar with Teruah that breaks and confuses the opposing side.
